Vol. 567 No. 3

Written Answers. - Semi-State Bodies.

Bernard J. Durkan

Question:

100 Mr. Durkan asked the Minister for Agriculture and Food his future plans for Teagasc; if the body is likely to play an integral role in the farm advisory research and development areas in the future; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [14181/03]

Teagasc is an independent statutory body operating under the aegis of my Department. Its remit is to provide research, training and advisory services for the agri-food industry. Teagasc is governed by a board representative of the main stakeholders in the industry and it develops its programmes in line with the changing needs of the industry.

The organisation will continue to play an important role in supporting the Government's strategy for the development of the agri-food sector.
