Olwyn Enright

Question:

144 Ms Enright asked the Minister for Education and Science the number of appeals made in 2003 to the appeals board to adjudicate appeals from boards of management on mainstream staffing allocations in primary schools; the number of appeals that were successful; the number that were refused; the number of appeals outstanding; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [14154/03]

The first meeting of the appeals board dealing with appeals for the 2003-04 school year was held on 9 April 2003, when 66 appeals were submitted. All the appeals were considered by the appeals board and five were successful. The appeals board is due to meet again in early July. Schools which have not already done so may submit an appeal up to 20 June 2003.
