Question:

197 Mr. Cuffe asked the Minister for the Environment and Local Government the 2003 allocations from the environment fund, itemising the specific grants made from the ?30 million allocated to waste management capital grants, the ?17 million to be spent on current waste management and enforcement, and the ?8 million on non-waste commitments, including pollution control, environmental awareness and the litter initiative; and if funds are to be spent or have been spent on the Ringsend incinerator in Dublin. A total of €8.3 million was allocated to the Dublin Waste to Energy Project on 17 July 2001, prior to the introduction of the environment fund. Of this, £4.4 million has been paid to date of which €846,690.95 was paid from the environment fund –€367,851.62 in 2002 and €478,839.33 in 2003. Further allocations towards planning and procurement costs incurred by local authorities in developing public private partnerships for waste infrastructure, including the Dublin waste to energy project, will be made during 2003.
