Jim O'Keeffe

Question:

400 Mr. J. O'Keeffe asked the Minister for the Environment and Local Government the number of tribunals, inquiries or other public committees of investigation under the aegis of his Department, established or in session at any point in the past four years; the estimated costs incurred by each of these inquiries in their operation; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [14706/03]

The Tribunal of Inquiry into Certain Planning Matters and Payments was set up in November 1997 on foot of resolutions passed by Dáil Éireann and Seanad Éireann on 7 and 8 October 1997, respectively. The costs of the tribunal fall to be met from the Vote of the Department of the Environment and Local Government. The total cost of the tribunal to 26 May 2003 is €26,120,578.83.
