Vol. 567 No. 6

Written Answers. - Departmental Expenditure.

John Gormley

Question:

98 Mr. Gormley asked the Minister for Finance his views on whether his Department's share of the more than ?10 million spent by Government Departments in 2002 on public relations, marketing and advertising represents best value for money; and the plans which exist to reduce spending in this area. [14671/03]

I am satisfied that my Department's expenditure in 2002 in the area mentioned by the Deputy represented excellent value for money: it covered topics such as informing the public about the euro changeover, the national development plan and dormant accounts and I am sure the Deputy will agree that expenditure on such topics was justified. With the euro changeover completed, my Department will spend considerably less in the area in 2003.
