Vol. 567 No. 7

Written Answers. - Public Transport.

Brian O'Shea

Question:

218 Mr. O'Shea asked the Minister for Transport his proposals to introduce bus lanes to Waterford City; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [15060/03]

I understand that a planning, land use and transportation study is currently nearing completion in Waterford. Among other things, I understand that the study will propose bus priority measures as a means of tackling traffic congestion in the city. While responsibility for the provision of bus lanes or bus corridors in Waterford rests with the city council, officials of my Department recently met officials of the council asking that proposals be brought forward to improve access in and around the city for public transport, including the introduction of QBCs, and in that regard financial support was offered. I await to hear back from the council.
