Vol. 567 No. 7

Written Answers. - Rural Environment Protection Scheme.

Michael Ring

Question:

239 Mr. Ring asked the Minister for the Environment and Local Government when Dúchas will clarify its compensation package for commonage farmers who are not in the REP scheme and are affected by destocking restrictions; when details of this package will be announced; and the person or persons who will deal with this matter. [14990/03]

The principles underlying the proposed compensation scheme are as outlined in my reply to Question No. 391 of 4 February 2003. At the time of that reply it was anticipated that the scheme could be approved by the European Commission, for State aid purposes, within two to three months. Such approval is still awaited. Details of the scheme, including application procedures, will be announced once Commission approval has been received.
