Vol. 568 No. 1

Written Answers. - Bovine Disease Controls.

Ned O'Keeffe

Question:

245 Mr. N. O'Keeffe asked the Minister for Agriculture and Food if an urgent inspection will be carried out to restore the family herd number of a person (details supplied) in County Cork. [15544/03]

The herd number in question has been dormant since 1993, following the death of the herdowner.

An application for a new herd number was submitted earlier this year to the local district veterinary office by the son of the late herdowner. Following two inspections of the facilities available on the land involved by my Departments officials it was considered that all the requirements for the issue of a herd number to the son were not being met.

I understand that the widow of the former herdowner is now intending to make an application for a herd number instead of her son. The matter will be reviewed on receipt of such an application.
