Question:

281 Mr. Hogan asked the Minister for Finance the total expenditure in 2002 which was spent on public relations; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [15666/03]

My Department paid a total of €150,946 to public relations companies in 2002. Of that, €37,394 related to the Euro Changeover Board of Ireland. The remaining €113,552 was spent on the dissemination of information regarding national development plan, NDP, investment; that expenditure was 50% co-funded by the EU. Dissemination of information on NDP investment is part of the agreed provisions of the Programme for Prosperity and Fairness and is required under EU Regulation 1159/2000.
