Vol. 568 No. 1

Written Answers. - School Meals.

Billy Timmins

Question:

335 Mr. Timmins asked the Minister for Education and Science the amount of Irish food which is served in school canteens; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [15410/03]

As the Deputy will be aware, schools are privately owned and managed institutions which, although funded by the State, enjoy a large degree of autonomy. It is, therefore, primarily a matter for each school to decide on what food should be served in their school canteen. Schools are not required to report to my Department the country of origin of the food served in their canteens.
