Vol. 568 No. 1

Written Answers. - Special Educational Needs.

Bernard J. Durkan

Question:

405 Mr. Durkan asked the Minister for Education and Science the extent to which he has received requests for further remedial, resource or special needs teachers at the various schools throughout County Kildare; the extent to which he proposes to respond favourably in the near future; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [16032/03]

My Department considers applications from all primary schools for special needs assistant and resource teaching support once the needs are confirmed through assessments by relevant professionals and provided the applications comply with the criteria contained in Department Circulars 07/02 and 08/02. Applications for these resources are processed on a term basis and schools are notified of allocations accordingly.
