Vol. 568 No. 1

Written Answers. - Telecommunications Provision.

Jimmy Deenihan

Question:

444 Mr. Deenihan asked the Minister for Communications, Marine and Natural Resources the reasons the metro network programme does not include broadband provision in County Kerry; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [15448/03]

Following the second call for proposals held under the communications and e-commerce measure of the National Development Plan 2000-2006, the regional broadband programme that will result in the construction of open access metropolitan area fibre optic networks in upwards of 19 towns around the country was announced. All local authorities were invited to make applications for funding under this call. My Department received no applications from Kerry.
