459 Mr. Cuffe asked the Minister for Communications, Marine and Natural Resources the total cost of projects announced or promised by Ministers of the last Government between 1 January 2002 and 17 May 2002. [15299/03]

The total public and private funding costs associated with Marine and Natural Resources programmes and-or projects announced by Ministers between 1 January 2002 and 17 May 2002 is estimated at €194.7 million.

Fishery Harbour Development Programme

Design, development and construction of harbour works at Fishery Harbour Centres i.e. Killybegs, Rossaveel, Castletownbere, Dunmore East, Howth and Dingle ,other Local Authority owned fishery harbours such as Burtonport, Portmore, Greencastle, Portaleen in Co Donegal and Ballycrovane, Co Cork.

Coast protection Programme

Design, development and construction of coast protection works at locations such as Strandhill, Co Sligo, Bellurgan, Co Louth, Ballyheigue/Inch, Co Kerry and Tramore, Co Waterford.

Aquaculture

The investment relates to the 100% costs of implementation of private sector investment in aquaculture production projects. Such projects are eligible for grant aid under the EU co-funded Aquaculture Measure of the Regional Operational Programmes and were approved for grant aid of 5% from the Exchequer aid and 35% under the Financial Instrument for Fisheries Guidance (FIFG). Payment of grant aid is dependent on implementation of projects in line with approvals.

Inland Fisheries

The funding was primarily for Catchment Management projects in all of the Fisheries Boards areas.This would include providing access and parking at fisheries ( incl. disabled angler access & fishing stands), capital works to Regional Boards buildings, slipways, piers, facilitation and education awareness programmes re. catchment management, etc.

Provision of all weather 24 hour emergency service at Waterford Airport.

The then Minister on 13th February, 2002 announced the award of a 5 year contract with CHC (Ireland) Ltd to provide this service,to replace the Air Corps service at that location. An interim service on a twelve hours per day basis was provided from 1 May 2002 to run to the start of the main contract.

The estimate cost of the project at the time of its announcement was 6,428,000

Post Doctoral Fellowship PhD FellowshipDesk Studies.

These fellowships aim to support and strengthen the Research, Technology, Development and Innovation (RTDI) capacity of indigenous industry in the marine sector by providing grant-aid to support in-house and co-operative RTDI projects. They also aim to support national marine RTDI capacity building through grant -aid support for strategic marine RTDI projects
