Vol. 568 No. 1

Written Answers. - School Transport.

John Gormley

Question:

100 Mr. Gormley asked the Minister for Education and Science if a scheme exists to subsidise parents who are forced to send their children to primary school outside their home town in suburban areas with no ready bus access due to lack of places; if not, if he intends to set up such a scheme; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [15836/03]

Where a child must attend a primary school which is not the nearest primary school to where the child resides, a transport grant may be paid under the terms of the school transport scheme if my Department is satisfied that there are valid reasons for the child's attendance at that school and the child resides at least two miles from the school concerned. The school transport section of my Department would be pleased to investigate a particular case should the Deputy wish to provide the relevant details.
