Arthur Morgan

Question:

696 Mr. Morgan asked the Minister for the Environment Heritage and Local Government if it is the Government's intention to purchase Lissadell House; if there are plans to preserve Lissadell House as a State-owned memorial to Countess Markiewicz; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [15160/03]

Joe Costello

Question:

727 Mr. Costello asked the Minister for the Environment Heritage and Local Government if Lissadell House, County Sligo, will be purchased for the State; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [15574/03]

I propose to answer Questions Nos. 696 and 727 together.

Following notice of the intended sale of Lissadell House, I have asked my officials, in conjunction with Sligo County Council, to assess the property and to report back to me. Upon receipt of a full report, covering issues such as the condition of the house, possible future uses, running costs, etc., I will be in a position to make a considered judgment with regard to any future role for the State in relation to the property.
