Vol. 568 No. 1

Written Answers. - Environmental Policy.

Tony Gregory

Question:

728 Mr. Gregory asked the Minister for the Environment Heritage and Local Government if copies of the independent scientific study commissioned by his Department and the NARGC, quoted in a newspaper (details supplied) will be made available. [15589/03]

Current policy is that hunting is not permitted on State lands which are owned by my Department. At the request of the National Association of Regional Game Councils, NARGC, my predecessor agreed, without prejudice to the above position, to participation by experienced departmental officials together with nominees of NARGC in an examination of the issue of hunting on State lands, from a scientific perspective only. My Department's consideration of the report of this study is nearing completion, and I intend shortly to make it available along with my response to it.
