Vol. 568 No. 1

Written Answers. - Local Authority Housing.

Mary Upton

Question:

731 Dr. Upton asked the Minister for the Environment Heritage and Local Government if his Department has approved the purchase of new apartment blocks in locations (details supplied) in Dublin 8 for the provision of social housing; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [15638/03]

My Department has provided funding of almost €13 million to Dublin City Council to purchase 67 turnkey units for letting by the city council at locations in Kilmainham, Dolphins Barn and Marrowbone Lane. Funding of €22.1 million has also been approved under my Department's voluntary housing programme in May 2002 for the acquisition of a turnkey development of 92 apartments at 36-39 James Street by the Oaklee Housing Trust. There are currently no further proposals in my Department from the city council for the purchase of turnkey developments for social housing.
