Written Answers. - Departmental Expenditure.

Ciarán Cuffe

Question:

743 Mr. Cuffe asked the Minister for the Environment Heritage and Local Government the total cost of projects announced or promised by Ministers of the last Government between 1 January 2002 and 17 May 2002. [15299/03]

The major programmes and funding measures administered by my Department at central level include local authority housing, water and waste water services, non-national roads and the local government fund. In general funding is allocated to individual local authorities having regard to proposals submitted by them to the Department and-or by way of block grant. In the case of non-national roads the initial 2002 allocations, amounting to €438.46 million, were made on 18 January 2002 with a further €10 million allocated on 27 March, giving an overall allocation of €448.46 million for 2002. Details of my Department's €726 million investment programme for water and sewerage infrastructure for the period 2002-04 were announced on 16 April 2002. In addition, the 2002 rural water programme allocations, amounting to €80 million, were announced on 8 February 2002. Allocations for 2002 from the local government fund and for the local authority housing programme were made respectively before and after the period specified in the question.
