Vol. 568 No. 2

Written Answers. - Electricity Generation.

Trevor Sargent

Question:

115 Mr. Sargent asked the Minister for Communications, Marine and Natural Resources if his Department has secured European Commission approval for the ten year fixed price contract arrangement for the new 400MW gas fired power station recently proposed by the energy regulator. [16010/03]

I presume the Deputy is referring to the competition being conducted by the Commission for Energy Regulation, CER, to obtain at least 300MW of centrally dispatched plant by 2005 in order to meet generation adequacy requirements. I confirm that both my Department and the CER have been in communication with the relevant services of the European Commission and that the latter has raised no objection to the competition proceeding on the basis proposed by the CER.
