Vol. 568 No. 3

Written Answers. - National Conference Centre.

Jack Wall

Question:

24 Mr. Wall asked the Minister for Arts, Sport and Tourism when he expects to finalise proposals as to the way in which the national conference centre project might be best progressed; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [16127/03]

Jimmy Deenihan

Question:

29 Mr. Deenihan asked the Minister for Arts, Sport and Tourism the position regarding the provision of a national conference centre; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [16173/03]

I propose to take Questions No. 24 and 29 together.

As I informed the House on 28 May last, a dedicated national conference centre would be a desirable addition to our international conference infrastructure. Deputies will appreciate that a project of this scale, complexity and cost required very detailed and careful examination with the result that consultations with other Departments have only very recently been completed. I am currently finalising my submission to Cabinet to reflect the outcome of those consultations and I expect that a Government decision on the project will be taken in the very near future.
