Vol. 568 No. 3

Written Answers. - Taxi Regulations.

Richard Bruton

Question:

96 Mr. R. Bruton asked the Minister for Transport if he has set a deadline for a report back from the interim taxi regulator in respect of the report of the taxi hardship committee and on the additional recommendations of the EU petitions committee; and when he will make final decisions on the hardship payments. [16250/03]

I refer to the reply to Question No. 601 of 10 June 2003. The position is unchanged. The interim chairman of the Commission for Taxi Regulation has recommended that a scheme be put in place as quickly as possible to facilitate a start being made with hardship payments based on a particular strategy that he has recommended.

I agree with Mr. Farrelly's recommended approach and every effort is being made to put in place a structure to facilitate the commencement of payments as soon as possible.

Question No. 97 taken with Question No. 95.
