Vol. 568 No. 6

Written Answers. - School Staffing.

Olwyn Enright

Question:

235 Ms Enright asked the Minister for Education and Science when he intends to sanction a reduction in teaching hours for co-ordinators of the leaving certificate applied programme and the transition year programme; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [17156/03]

Arrangements to compensate schools for the reduction in teaching hours afforded to programme co-ordinators can only be implemented within the overall teaching resource available to my Department and in the context of the recently announced cap on public sector numbers. This inevitably involves prioritisation in the utilisation of teaching resources. My Department is reviewing the options available. The issue of programme co-ordinator posts forms part of this consideration.
