Vol. 568 No. 6

Written Answers. - Schools Building Projects.

Olwyn Enright

Question:

246 Ms Enright asked the Minister for Education and Science the reason Killeen national school was omitted from the school building programme 2003; if this omission was inadvertent; if it will be added to the 2003 programme; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [17171/03]

An application for improved accommodation has been received from the management authorities of Killeen national school, via Birr, County Tipperary. Based on the budgetary allocation, it was not possible to make provision for this project in 2003. The timing of when individual projects can progress to construction will depend on the budgetary allocation for 2004 and subsequent years and the relative priority of each project. In the meantime, individual schools should use their devolved grant to deal with any urgent health and safety issues.

Question:

247 Ms Enright asked the Minister for Education and Science if his attention has been drawn to the serious defects in the drainage and sewerage system of a school (details supplied) in County Donegal; when he envisages this school will have work carried out; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [17172/03]

An application for improved accommodation has been received from the management authorities of the school in question. This proposed project is at an advanced stage of architectural planning. The timing of when individual projects can progress to tender and construction will depend on the budgetary allocation for 2004 and subsequent years and the relative priority of each project. In the meantime, individual schools should use the devolved grant to deal with any urgent health and safety works.
