Vol. 568 No. 6

Written Answers. - Bus Services.

Bernard J. Durkan

Question:

283 Mr. Durkan asked the Minister for Transport if an audit has been undertaken on the var ious Bus Éireann and Bus Átha Cliath routes with a view to determining the adequacy or otherwise of existing services; if plans are in hand to augment areas of deficiency; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [17185/03]

Both Bus Éireann and Bus Átha Cliath have customer charters which are subject to an independent annual audit by market researchers who engage in sample surveys of passengers and who also sample the operation of the services provided. These audits help to identify, in an objective manner, areas where customer expectations have been met and where specific improvements are being sought. These audits are valuable in providing information on such matters as frequency of services, value for money, journey comfort, timetabling and punctuality. Services are adapted in the light of these audits.
