Vol. 568 No. 6

Written Answers. - Garda Deployment.

Seán Crowe

Question:

288 Mr. Crowe asked the Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform the number of drug squad officers assigned to Cabra and Finglas Garda stations; and the number of gardaí working on drug crimes and drug related crimes. [17009/03]

I am informed by the Garda authorities that the specific information sought by the Deputy is primarily of an operational nature. It would not be appropriate therefore to divulge that information. The general position is that all Garda operational personnel have a responsibility for the enforcement of drugs legislation. I am also informed that local Garda management in the areas in question are satisfied with current personnel strength. Local Garda management can also avail of the services of the national drugs unit, and of the other Garda national support units, as necessary.
