Vol. 568 No. 6

Written Answers. - Road Safety.

Eamon Gilmore

Question:

87 Mr. Gilmore asked the Minister for Transport if he will report on progress to date on the promised review of speed limits; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [16870/03]

A broadly based working group was established to carry out a review of the speed limits structure. I understand that the review group is concluding its deliberations at present and intends to submit its report to me next month. The working group has addressed all of the major issues relating to speed limit policy including the range of speed limits deployed on roadways and in regard to particular categories of vehicles, the policy in relation to signage used to indicate speed limits and the implications of the adoption of metric values for speed measurement.
