Vol. 568 No. 6

Written Answers. - Infrastructural Development.

Cecilia Keaveney

Question:

167 Cecilia Keaveney asked the Tánaiste and Minister for Enterprise, Trade and Employment her views on a statement by a person (details supplied) in relation to the urgency concerning the need for infrastructural development, be it communications, road, rail, electricity or gas, for regions such as Inishowen, County Donegal; and if she will make a statement on the matter. [17006/03]

Physical infrastructure is one of the most important underlying inputs in the business environment. The National Development Plan 2000-2006 is committed to investing €11 billion on infrastructure such as national roads, public transport and water and waste water facilities. These items are essential features of a modern enterprise economy and provide services without which the business sector could not function effectively. The achievement of the ambitious infrastructure goals of the NDP is driven by a Cabinet committee that has devised a framework for action on infrastructure development, including public private partnerships. Regional aspects of this issue will be assisted by implementation of the national spatial strategy.
