Vol. 568 No. 6

Written Answers. - Herd Restrictions.

Michael Ring

Question:

191 Mr. Ring asked the Minister for Agriculture and Food the reason a person (details supplied) in County Mayo was told that their herd was restricted when in fact this is not the case; and the reason this person has not received their cards back from Bandon. [17084/03]

The person indicated, whose herd was restricted due to TB since 3 January 2002, was notified by my Department's district veterinary office in Castlebar on 20 May 2002 that this restriction was being lifted.

The de-restriction of the herd was input on the Department's bovine tagging and registration system, but due to a fault in this system the de-restriction was not notified to the national calf registration agency in Bandon. Consequently passports being issued by Bandon for calves registered in April, May and June 2003 were sent to the DVO in Castlebar. Due to the recent industrial dispute there, these passports were held up in the DVO but issued to the herdowner on 17 June.
