Vol. 569 No. 1

Written Answers. - Water and Sewerage Schemes.

John Perry

Question:

150 Mr. Perry asked the Minister for the Environment Heritage and Local Government the timescale anticipated for Sligo County Council's application lodged since April 2002 for upgrading the sewerage system in Enniscrone, County Sligo; the reason his Department has not responded to correspondence which has been with it for 15 months; the reason for the delay in granting the necessary funding for this scheme which is urgently required to ensure the reinstatement of the blue flag status for this seaside resort; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [17253/03]

This scheme is included in my Department's water services investment programme 2002 – 2004 to advance through planning and proceed to construction in 2004. The preliminary report, received from Sligo County Council in April 2002, has been under examination in my Department and I understand a letter will issue shortly to the County Council requesting additional information to assist in finalising this examination. The timescale for examination of such proposals is dictated by the competing demands placed on my Department's technical staff and the scheduling of individual schemes within the overall water services investment programme.
