Vol. 569 No. 1

Written Answers. - Agenda 2000.

Brian O'Shea

Question:

70 Mr. O'Shea asked the Minister for Agriculture and Food his proposals to meet the concerns of a person (details supplied) in County Waterford; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [17319/03]

The concerns expressed by the person named relate to the European Commission's proposals for the mid-term review of Agenda 2000. Over recent months a number of working groups, made up of officials from member states, have been examining these proposals. My Department has pointed out the potential implications both for farmers who have already retired under the early retirement schemes, as in the case of the person named, and for the younger farmers who have taken over their holdings. I have also raised the matter at the Council of Ministers.
