Vol. 569 No. 1

Written Answers. - Schools Building Projects.

Paddy McHugh

Question:

94 Mr. McHugh asked the Minister for Education and Science the position in relation to the building and refurbishment at Ard Scoil Chuain, Castleblayney Ballinasloe, County Galway; when funding is likely to be made available; when work can be expected to commence; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [17339/03]

With regard to the provision of temporary accommodation at Ard Scoil Chuain, Castleblayney, the tender report has been submitted to my Department. This is currently being examined. When the appropriate analysis has been completed a decision in the matter will issue directly to the school management authority.

In relation to the proposed refurbishment of the school, in view of the scale of the 2003 school building programme as published and having regard to the level of financial commitments to be met from projects already in construction, my Department does not envisage that it will be in a position during this year to allow the refurbishment works to proceed. The timing of when this project can proceed is dependent on the financial allocation for 2004 and subsequent years and the competing priorities for this funding.
