Vol. 569 No. 3

Written Answers. - Grant Payments.

Paul Connaughton

Question:

183 Mr. Connaughton asked the Minister for Agriculture and Food the reason the 2002 suckler cow grant has not been awarded to a person (details supplied) in County Galway; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [17689/03]

The person named applied for premium on 24 animals under the 2002 suckler cow premium scheme. When processing for payment it was found that animal tag number 181755920066 was removed from the herd inside the six months retention period and would have therefore required replacing as outlined in the terms and conditions of the scheme. The spouse of the person named visited the district livestock office of my Department on 21 March 2003 and stated that the absent animal could not be replaced. She was informed that, as a consequence of this non-compliance, a resultant penalty would apply. Due to the recent industrial action in the Galway local office, correspondence regarding this matter issued to the herdowner only on 23 June 2003. He has been given 21 days to seek a review and on receipt of his response the application will be processed further.
