Vol. 569 No. 3

Written Answers. - Postgraduate Courses.

Jan O'Sullivan

Question:

269 Ms O'Sullivan asked the Minister for Education and Science when it is intended to proceed with the three-year postgraduate course in clinical psychology at the University of Limerick; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [17699/03]

In early 2000 the joint review group on psychology services recommended a significant increase in the number of postgraduate training places in order to bring about an improved balance between the supply and demand for professionally qualified clinical psychologists. I understand that the University of Limerick is working closely with the Mid-Western Health Board to develop a post-graduate course in clinical psychology. This development enhances graduate output and will help to maintain an important balance between demand and supply in human resource and service provision in clinical psychology. I want to assure the Deputy that my Department will continue to work with the Department of Health and Children and the relevant providers to ensure an adequate provision of training places in clinical psychology.
