Question:405 Mr. Neville asked the Minister for the Environment Heritage and Local Government the total number of employees in each county and city council for the month of June for 1998 to 2003 inclusive. [17599/03]

The total numbers of employees, expressed in whole time equivalents, returned for each county and city council at 31 December of each year from 1998 to 2001 are set out in the attached table. Information relating to December 2002 is currently being collected from the local authorities and it is proposed to put in place more frequent monitoring arrangements during 2003.
