133 Mr. Sargent asked the Minister for Health and Children the current position regarding a national policy framework updating current mental health policy (details supplied); and if he will make a statement on the matter [17622/03]
The national health strategy, Quality and Fairness – A Health System for You, acknowledged the need to update mental health policy to take account of recent legislative reform, developments in the care and treatment of mental illness and current best practice. The strategy included a commitment that a national policy framework for the further modernisation of the mental health services would be prepared. The composition of an expert group to undertake this work is currently being considered.
