Vol. 569 No. 3

Written Answers. - Redundancy Payments.

Pat Carey

Question:

170 Mr. Carey asked the Tánaiste and Minister for Enterprise, Trade and Employment if a person (details supplied) in Dublin 11 is entitled to redundancy payments; and if she will make a statement on the matter. [17786/03]

To qualify for payment of a statutory redundancy lump sum, an employee must be under 66 years of age at the date of termination of employment. Therefore, if the person concerned is 66 years of age as supplied in the details to the question, he would unfortunately not be eligible for a statutory redundancy lump sum payment. However, computer records of the Department of Social and Family Affairs show that the person concerned was born on 6 June 1938. If this is indeed his correct date of birth, and provided he fulfils the other conditions – has at least two years' service and is fully insurable if he is a full-time worker – he could then be entitled to a statutory redundancy lump sum payment. His birth certificate could be used to clarify this matter.

I have arranged for officials from my Department to send the Deputy a copy of the guide to the redundancy payments scheme for information. If he needs further clarification this is available from my Department at (01) 6313033, 6313050 and 6313332.
