Vol. 569 No. 5

Written Answers. - Departmental Appointments.

Michael Ring

Question:

77 Mr. Ring asked the Minister for Finance if the Civil Service and Local Appointments Commissioners will be recruiting for appointment to the post of executive officer in provincial locations; if so, the exact date of the proposed advertisement; and when interviews will be held for the post of executive officer in the Dublin region. [18231/03]

Open recruitment competitions are held for appointment to certain posts in the Civil Service, including the post of executive officer, subject to the recruitment needs of the civil service. The Deputy may wish to note that the majority of vacancies in the post of executive officer occur in Dublin at present. Recruitment of executive officers to fill posts in provincial locations is normally undertaken as part of the executive officer competition. It is expected that the next competition to fill these posts in provincial locations will be held early next year. The Civil Service Commissioners will keep this matter under review.

The Deputy may wish to note that a confined competition for promotion to executive officer was announced in September 2002. This competition provides for the placing of candidates on panels for appointment to the post of executive officer in up to 24 provincial locations. An open competition for the recruitment of executive officers to posts in Dublin only was advertised in December 2002. The Civil Service Commissioners indicate that up to 74 candidates have been called to interview to date and further interviews will be arranged as appropriate. The Civil Service Commissioners also confirm that 16 assignments have been made to date.
