Vol. 569 No. 5

Written Answers. - Rehabilitative Training Programmes.

Willie Penrose

Question:

96 Mr. Penrose asked the Minister for Health and Children if he will address the various difficulties, which the NTDI is faced with, in relation to the allocation for implementation of programmes on rehabilitative training; if a mechanism will be put in place to allow for the setting up new programmes to ensure that these programmes are of a defined nature, time limited and training focused as opposed to a day-care service; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [18159/03]

In relation to rehabilitative training programmes, I wish to assure the Deputy that measures are in place between service providers and the health boards-authority for the submission and approval of new training programme specifications. All such training programmes are of a defined nature, are time limited, and do have a training focus. My Department is currently unaware of any general difficulties with the provision of rehabilitative training. However, if the Deputy will supply details of specific areas of concern my Department will be happy to examine same.
