Vol. 569 No. 5

Written Answers. - Grant Payments.

Bernard J. Durkan

Question:

103 Mr. Durkan asked the Minister for Health and Children when the application for a disabled person's grant will be processed in the case of a person (details supplied) in County Kildare; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [18220/03]

The provision of the disabled person's grant is a matter for the Department of the Environment, Heritage and Local Government and such grants are administered through the relevant local authority. The Deputy should contact the relevant local authority in this instance.

However, I wish to advise the Deputy that I am aware of the difficulties encountered by people applying for the disabled person's grant. Consequently, my Department is currently engaging with the Department of the Environment, Heritage and Local Government with a view to streamlining assessment procedures for the disabled person's grant.
