Vol. 570 No. 3

Written Answers. - Bovine Disease Controls.

Seymour Crawford

Question:

149 Mr. Crawford asked the Minister for Agriculture and Food when a person (details supplied) in County Monaghan can expect to receive compensation in respect of reactor animals slaughtered by a company (details supplied) prior to its closure. [19054/03]

As the Deputy will be aware, the factory concerned went out of business some time ago and matters relating to this company are in the hands of a liquidator. Since there will not be sufficient funds to pay farmers who are owed money in respect of reactor animals brought to this factory, I decided to set up a compensation scheme under which the farmers involved can apply to the Department for payment of moneys due to them in respect of such reactor animals. My Department is processing an application on behalf of the person indicated. However, to date he has omitted to forward one necessary piece of documentation which has been requested from him. When this is received, the payment due will issue.
