Vol. 570 No. 4

Written Answers. - School Accommodation.

Olwyn Enright

Question:

238 Ms Enright asked the Minister for Education and Science when Clonee/Littlepace Educate Together will be provided with funding for a new school; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [19443/03]

The position is that a new multi-denominational primary school in the Clonee-Ongar Road area was recently granted provisional recognition effective from September 2003. The activation of this recognition is dependent on the school authorities identifying suitable interim accommodation for September 2003, as stipulated in the school recognition process.

The school authorities have been advised that the question of permanent recognition will be considered when the Department is satisfied that long-term viability has been demonstrated.

Until such time as permanent recognition is granted to the school, my Department will not consider purchasing a site to permanently accommodate the school. If and when permanent recognition is granted, budgetary factors will then determine the rate of progress on the acquisition of a site and on the delivery of permanent accommodation for the school.
