Vol. 571 No. 1

Written Answers. - Human Rights Issues.

Seán Crowe

Question:

427 Mr. Crowe asked the Minister for Foreign Affairs his views on the human rights records and practices of the current Spanish administration. [19816/03]

As the Deputy is aware, Spain is a parliamentary democracy and a member state of the European Union. Protection under law is provided for human rights in keeping with this status, and with Spain's obligations as party to numerous UN and Council of Europe Conventions governing the protection and promotion of human rights, including the European Convention for the Protection of Human Rights and Fundamental Freedoms. As the Deputy will also be aware, Spanish citizens have full access to domestic and European courts in pursuit of these and other rights.
