Vol. 571 No. 1

Written Answers. - Harbours and Piers.

Brian O'Shea

Question:

753 Mr. O'Shea asked the Minister for Communications, Marine and Natural Resources his proposals for dredging Dungarvan Harbour in County Waterford; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [20508/03]

As indicated in the previous reply to this question in 2001, a feasibility study was prepared in 1999 on behalf of Dungarvan UDC by consulting engineers. This study recommended extensive dredging of the harbour to facilitate a marina and other leisure activities. The feasibility study was submitted to my Department at the time.

As was also indicated in the previous reply, any application for assistance on foot of the feasibility study was to be assessed in accordance with the procedures laid down under the marine tourism grant scheme. Unfortunately, this scheme was not pursued due to funding constraints within this Department. In the circumstances, it will not be possible to assist in the funding of dredging in Dungarvan Harbour.
