Vol. 571 No. 1

Written Answers. - Crime Prevention.

Charlie O'Connor

Question:

1092 Mr. O'Connor asked the Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform if has considered the National Crime Council's report, A Crime Prevention Strategy for Ireland: Tackling the Concerns of Local Communities; if he has proposals to deal with the recommendations; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [19577/03]

The National Crime Council presented its wide ranging and interesting report to me on 27 June. The report contains a total of 39 recommendations which, in addition to being directed at areas for which I am responsible, are also directed at areas for which other Ministers, including the Ministers for the Environment, Heritage and Local Government, Health and Children and Education and Science, are responsible.

I am currently considering the report's recommendations. I will bring proposals to Government in due course in relation to my response to the report and its recommendations.
