Vol. 571 No. 1

Written Answers. - Procurement Procedures.

Bernard Allen

Question:

1273 Mr. Allen asked the Minister for the Environment Heritage and Local Government if his Department has been in contact with all local authorities to ensure that they conform to Department of Finance guidelines in view of the revelations that Wexford County Council gave work to a local auctioneering firm without putting it out to public tender; if so, the local authorities which were in breach and those in conformity; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [20171/03]

My Department arranges that both national and EU directives on procurement procedures and the implications of those directives are conveyed to local authorities. Ensuring that those directives are met for each specific procurement is a matter for the local authority concerned, subject to the controls operated by the local government audit service.
