Question:

221 Mr. Ferris asked the Minister for Agriculture and Food if he will make a statement on the 29 September 2003 meeting of the EU Agriculture and Fisheries Council. [22221/03]

The main items of business at the Council meeting on 29 September 2003 were: the adoption of the seven regulations that give legal effect to the agreement which was reached by the Council on 26 June on the mid-term review of the Common Agricultural Policy; a policy debate, based on a Presidency questionnaire, on the guidelines for the development of national strategies and best practice to ensure the co-existence of genetically modified crops with conventional and organic farming; the presentation by the Commission of its communication to the Council and the European Parliament entitled, Achieving a sustainable form of agriculture for Europe by means of the reformed CAP – tobacco, olive oil, cotton and sugar.
