Vol. 571 No. 4

Written Answers. - Garda Telecommunications Equipment.

Aengus Ó Snodaigh

Question:

233 Aengus Ó Snodaigh asked the Minister for Finance the details of the contract or arrangement between a company (details supplied) and the Garda Síochána; and if such a contract exists between the company and other State agencies. [21948/03]

In 1997, the Commissioners of Public Works in Ireland, the Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform, the Minister for Finance and the Commissioner of the Garda Síochána entered into a non-exclusive agreement with the company mentioned in relation to the erection of telecommunications equipment on certain Garda premises.

Under the terms of the agreement the company was allowed to install telecommunications equipment on certain Garda premises for an initial term of five years with an option, which has been exercised, to extend the agreement for a second five year term. The company pays a licence fee to the Commissioners of Public Works in respect of all premises where such equipment is located. In addition, the company provided some telecommunications equipment for Garda purposes as part of the overall agreement.

The Commissioners of Public Works do not have details of any other agreements the company may have with other State agencies.
