Vol. 571 No. 4

Written Answers. - Benchmarking Awards.

Richard Bruton

Question:

235 Mr. R. Bruton asked the Minister for Finance the cost of the total benchmarking pay award in respect of the Central Bank. [21952/03]

Under Section 6D(5) of the Central Bank Act 1942, the Central Bank and Financial Services Authority of Ireland, CBFSAI, sets its own rates of remuneration for staff and does not seek or require sanction from the Minister for any increases. I do not, therefore, hold the information which the Deputy requests.

The CBFSAI is obliged to produce an annual report and audited accounts, which are laid before the Oireachtas. The Deputy will also be aware that the governor of the CBFSAI must, if requested, appear before the Joint Oireachtas Committee on Finance and the Public Service.
