Vol. 571 No. 4

Written Answers. - Departmental Properties.

Paul McGrath

Question:

502 Mr. P. McGrath asked the Minister for the Environment Heritage and Local Government the amount of money received by Dúchas for allowing the use of the Phoenix Park as a commercial venue for a concert (details supplied); the way in which the money will be spent; if it will be ring-fenced for the upkeep and maintenance of the park itself; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [22088/03]

In accordance with my Department's policy framework published in 1997, relating to the use of the Phoenix Park for large-scale cultural, musical and heritage events, a substantial fee in excess of the normal commercial rate for events was received for this event. The amount of the fee is commercially sensitive information, which could prejudice the competitive position of the developer and the Department's negotiating position in relation to future events.

In accordance with standard procedures, my Department will bring the relevant item to account in the context of the Appropriation Account for the current year. This will, in the normal course, be subject to audit by the Comptroller and Auditor General.
