Question:

219 Mr. Connaughton asked the Minister for Agriculture and Food the reason a disadvantaged areas compensatory award only amounted to the sum of ?2,197 in an application made by a person (details supplied) in County Galway; the amount paid to this person in the previous year; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [23305/03]

The person named was paid his full entitlement of €2,197.91 on 20 September 2002 and €2,197.91 on 19 September 2003 under the area based compensatory allowance scheme in respect of 20.62 hectares of mountain type land, €101.58 per hectare on the first ten hectares and €88.88 per hectare on the remaining 10.62 hectares, and 2.68 hectares of more severely handicapped land, lowland, at €88.88 per hectare, that is, a total of 23.30 hectares.
